I have been living in the South of France in a small village outside Pézenas for 15 years now. I am Irish and have lived and worked in Dublin, London, Melbourne, Sydney and other cities for most of my working life and moving here was absolutely the best thing I have done. I am bilingual with a French husband and we have renovated 3 houses here and are about to embark on the 4th (finally one with a real garden) I was ‘a corporate’, working in marketing for most of my life and started working in property 6 years ago. I love the houses, I love driving around the French countryside and I love meeting interesting people and hearing their stories (and hopefully finding their dream homes). So I decided to set up a business to focus on all the elements I love – international focus, helping people and character homes.
In the last 6 years I have helped buyers from Ireland, the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, the US and Australia. I believe that to sell houses you need local knowledge because it’s never just the house, it’s also the lifestyle, the activities, the networks that are important. So I continue to take on houses in my area and work with agents in other areas to have a wider geographic range. The range will extend further afield as we grow. I also love helping my clients to find their dream home and I have been through the scary first step of buying in another country and another language so I like to be sure that the process is well explained and everything goes as smoothly as possible.
I just love old houses, that’s why I started this site! The quirky stone village houses with ancient wooden beams ; the elegant manor houses with marble fireplaces, high ceilings and decorative covings or the traditionally more functional winemakers houses that offer so many possibilities of layout and décor. Character homes with outside space are not easy to find, there is so much other stuff to trawl through, so I do a pre- selection and get as much information as I can to be able to answer detailed questions on the houses. Sometimes I will visit before putting them on here, sometimes after, so you may see different levels of detail on different houses on the site but do I work my way around them all.
I think this is really important, local knowledge is key. I work closely with a network of agents who help populate this site with a great selection of character homes. We are all based in the South of France, we know the towns and villages and the types of properties and values. So Old Stones basically a hub for a network of agents who are passionate about character homes.
